I am going to stay with my uncle and auntie for a couple of weeks just before Christmas, so I though I'd make them a little 'thanks for having me'... it's just something decorative to hang about the house...

Just started a new project... my friend Jess has got me knitting :-p

Teeny

Teeny Toley was a very little girl,
so named because of her height.
She was always trying to do grown up things,
trying with all her might.

Trying to reach door handles,
or use the kitchen sink.
Trying to use Mommy's computer,
but how, she could not think.

Everyone was bigger than her,
it really wasn't fair.
She tried to explain to Mommy,
who smiled and said with care;

"Every day you grow a little more,"
showing her the chart on the bedroom door.
"Last year you were smaller, this year you are taller.."
"And next year I'll be huge!" Teeny replied with a grin.

From that day on Teeny knew she wasn't just small,
but a growing girl, who would one day be tall.

It needs some work, but it's just an idea. I've been doing some research into children's books ans what makes the popular ones; Hairy McLarey, I love you this much, etc popular and it seems to be either poetry, repetition or that they play on words. I found a book called Bear Apple Pear in the AIB library and it only used those three words but in a different order on each page with matching illustrations. I think younger children respond primarily to repetition and will like a book more if they feel the achievement of learning the words or recognizing from the illustration the words that follow, even if they are unable to read. I have also found that some of the most popular children's books have been illustrated with watercolours in a sort of washy manor. For example the original Winnie The Pooh. I will look into developing these ideas in the next few weeks >_<

I have been working on Teeny, illustrating her, creating different scenarios and working on her facial construction and body shape.
Here are some pencil drawings I have been messing about with and an acrylic on cardboard development. Sorry about the poor quality photos, photobooth was the nearest thing to a camera I had to hand >_<

The first Puddin'

Yesterday I made the prototype of a little girl I have come to call Puddin'. I intend to produce her with near on the same facial expression in different scenarios. Something will always go wrong and she will always be crying. Here someone rather carelessly gave her a huge orange balloon, to which she was delighted. Little did she realize it would lift her up up and awaaaaay...

She hangs from the thin thread sewn into the top of the balloon. I am pleased with her, considering she is only a prototype. I am impressed I got her body shape just right so that she hangs correctly with her legs inline with graaaavitational pull >_<
